Travel: Prince’s Hot Chicken Shack – Nashville, TN

Earlier this year I had the privilege of dropping into Nashville, Tennessee on a long adventurous road trip from Upstate NY. My long time friend Devin and I had such a blast meeting locals and other tourists. We were engulfed and in awe of this wonderful music city.  Every bar and establishment we walked into had live music playing.  Some places had concurrent live music on multiple floors. It’s heaven to a music lover. All different genres of music too! I even got the chance to strum a few chords of guitar, late night on the streets inspired by a few drinks of inspiration. One of many personal dreams that came true.  We met two chill girls from Minnesota, we connected and had a blast.  At one point together with our new friends we met a group of tourists from the south in a parking lot.  They were pretty “inspired” as well.  One gentleman shouts “Ya’ll must be from the north!” and we were proud and said yes. We had a bunch of laughs just listening to each others totally opposite accents.  It was great and a life experience I’ll never forget. Before this all went down I fueled up with a stop at the famous Prince’s Hot Chicken Shack!

I learned about Prince’s Hot Chicken Shack on a TV show touring food in the US. I was eager to make the stop.  Even though my friend Devin was not pleased and Ill about waiting for so long for the order to be finished.  The chicken and experience was worth it in my book. Like I said there was a wait but what does one expect from a popular well known chicken establishment.  So if one goes please take my warning and arrive at least an hour early.

The chicken shack is a small space located within a shopping strip with lines sometimes out the door. I walked in and eventually placed my order to the friendly cashier. After an hour wait I finally received the order and was DYING to take my first bite.  The chicken comes on a bed of white bread to capture all the hot chicken sauce/juices and is topped with dill pickle slices.  The chicken was crispy and HOT (I like hot 🙂 ). The spice blend Prince uses is totally perfect. I didn’t use a napkin until the end because I had to lick my fingers. I’m so glad I was patient and waited for this Nashville treasure and that I now have a story to tell you all about.

If one ever travels to Nashville, eating at Prince’s Hot Chicken Shack is a must. If one appreciates HOT like I do, it will never be forgotten. Remember great food sometimes takes time to prepare so be patient. Also don’t feel guilty about eating fried chicken because one will burn off most of the calories by dancing the night away in the fine bars and streets of Nashville. The devil went down to Georgia but I swear he stopped in Nashville while Devin and I were visiting.
