Roscoe’s House of Chicken and Waffles

A while ago I flew out Los Angeles, CA to visit my awesome cousin and loving wife. My family showed me around many great attractions such as, Long Beach, Venice Beach, Hollywood and Signal Hill Park to name a few. I heard of Roscoe’s House of Chicken and Waffle’s for many years growing up and always wanted to give it a try.  The sound of chicken and waffles together may be off-putting to some but they are extremely delicious. The balance of sweet, salty, crunchy and savory is a true treat to enjoy.

Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles is a Long Beach, CA soul food chain that has several locations in the Los Angeles area (Hollywood, Anaheim, West LA, Long Beach, Pasadena and Inglewood).  This restaurant chain was founded by Herb Hudson, a Harlem native, in 1975 (Yay for New York roots!).

Upon entering I noticed that the business was very family friendly.  I saw smiles on many peoples faces from adults to children. The staff was welcoming and friendly to my cousins and I. When I opened the menu I saw an array of delicious menu options to choose from. There is literally something for just about anyones taste. They DO NOT have only chicken and waffles.  They offer sandwiches, salads, omelettes etc. I am uncertain about dietary restrictions but they would probably try to accommodate as best they can. Personally I ordered and was very excited to try the Obama Special. I trust that the 44th President of the US and has great taste. Also I know he has soul proven by his music choices, for instance Al Green. The Obama Special includes 3 amazing fried chicken wings, and choice of waffle, potato salad or french fries. I picked the waffle. The order arrived promptly to the table and I was  more than ready to dive in.  The chicken was crispy, tender and not over spiced. The waffle was ironed to perfection and the crunch was on point. All things waffle and chicken mixed together with the syrup included was a treat everyone in the world should experience. I stand by it!

I left Roscoe’s House of Chicken and Waffles very satisfied ready to continue my tours of the fabulous Los Angeles area. If you ever visit or live in LA, make sure to add this (at Long Beach, California)
